Landor wins Cannes Lion in design for Nine Suns

PARIS  (19 June 2013) — Global strategic brand consulting and design firm Landor announces the winning of a Cannes Gold Lion in the design category at the 2013 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Held annually in the south of France, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is the world’s biggest celebration of creativity in communications, benchmarking innovation in everything from mobile devices and billboards to design and branded content. The festival is a home for great ideas that change the ways brands interact with their customers.

Landor won gold for its work on Nine Suns, a new luxury winery in Napa Valley owned by the Chang family. Landor’s branding work for 2112, a Sarl Chateau de Beaulieu wine, and Wake Up with Landor, a Landor event series, were also shortlisted.

The Nine Suns brand tells the story of a preeminent winery dressed in mythical flair. In China, it is said that long ago 10 suns took turns rising in the sky until one day they grew tired of the routine. They decided to rise all at once, wreaking havoc on the environment by causing lakes to dry up and crops to perish. The God of Archery was summoned to save the land. He aimed. Nine suns fell. Only the sun we see today was left, restoring balance to the heavens and the earth.

Nine Suns has also received numerous other awards for its artful interplay of story, name, and design from organizations like Brand New, the One Club, and Art Directors Club.

The Nine Suns winery produces a limited number of cases for registered members and expects to release its first batch in the near future.
